Watching Rivers Dry Up

In February I walked or ran along the Asse river that runs from the Jura down towards Nyon and it was flooding. Walking paths had to be diverted and trees found themselves surrounded by water like individual islands. I walked by the same river during my daily walk yesterday and the opposite has now occurred.

The river that had flooded and turned into islands is now just a trickle. You can walk to the middle of the river without getting your socks wet. Having said this, having waterproof shoes does help keep socks dry. The point is that the layer of water is so shallow that you can walk to the middle of the river, take a picture, and walk back to the path, without getting wet.

The Daily Workout

Every single day I walk, run, or cycle. It doesn’t matter whether it’s rainy, sunny, windy, snowy or other. I do this out of habit. I know of quite a few routes that I can walk, run or cycle so there are variants. Some are long, some are short. If it’s going to rain I may choose a shorter route.

Leysins Group Hike

Today I could have driven to Leysin to do a group hike. It was full, but if I know the date and time it’s easy to join despite being in the waiting list. I didn’t feel like driving for an hour and a half to walk for a few hours, with a group of ‘strangers’ this weekend. I do group activities but my solitude never changes, so whether I walk alone locally, without using the car or not, doesn’t change much.
